Text is Skipped by Spell Checker

Problem

When HotDocs creates variable fields, it marks the variable name and other text between the chevrons («») with the Do not check spelling or grammar property. This is done to prevent Word from marking the text as misspelled or grammatically incorrect. For example, the syntax used in variable fields to indicate variable formats and merge text is "incorrect" grammar, but changing the text to be more grammatically "correct" would prevent HotDocs from interpreting it correctly.

Solution

If you want Word to check spelling and grammar in your entire template, including HotDocs variable fields, you must clear the Do not check spelling or grammar property.

To clear the Do not check spelling or grammar property

  1. With the template open Word, press Ctrl+A to select all of the text in the document.
  2. click Tools > Language > Set Language. The Language dialog box appears.
  3. Clear the Do not check spelling or grammar check box.
  4. Click OK'.
