Error Installing PDF Advantage

When installing HotDocs PDF Advantage, an AddPrinter error occurs and HotDocs PDF driver is not installed.


One solution to this problem may be simply logging on to the computer as an administrator because some users may not have the privileges needed to install printer drivers. If that doesn't work, you can check your computer's group policy to make sure it allows the installation of kernel-mode drivers. (Windows XP allows installation of kernel-mode drivers by default.)

To allow installation of kernel-mode drivers

  1. Click Start > Run. The Run dialog appears.
  2. Type gpedit.msc, then click OK. The Group Policy dialog box appears.
  3. Browse to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Printers. The right pane changes to show printer policies.
  4. Right-click on Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers and select Properties from the shortcut menu. The Properties dialog box appears.
  5. Select Not configured or Disabled, and then click OK.
  6. Open the Windows Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers. (To open the registry, enter regedit and Start > Run.)
  7. Modify the KMPrintersAreBlocked DWORD string value and make sure the Value data is set to 0. (Close the Registry Editor when you are finished.)
