Bookmarks Deleted When Editing Template

When closing and then reopening an RTF template, bookmarks located at the beginning of the template (in numbered text) are deleted.

This problem, which is caused by Microsoft Word, appears only under the following three conditions:

  • The bookmark must be at the very beginning of a document.
  • The bookmark must be in a numbered or bullet-ed paragraph.
  • The bookmark must not span any text.

If none of these conditions are met, the bookmark appears as usual. For example, if you place your bookmark in the middle of the first word of the template, you won't run into any problems. Likewise, if you select some text when you insert a bookmark, the bookmark appears as brackets around the text and it will not get lost.

The solution is to edit each template that has (or should have) a bookmark at the very beginning after a paragraph number. In each template, you can then create a bookmark somewhere in the first word (but not before the first word). You could also select the entire first heading, or place the bookmark at the end before the hard return, as long as it is somewhere on that line rather than immediately after the paragraph number.
