Bad Magic Number Errors When Saving Answer File

When saving a HotDocs answer file (.ANS), the error message [MAGIC] Bad magic number appears.


This error message may indicate that the answer file is corrupted. This type of corruption sometimes happens when saving the file to a network or other non-hard drive location (such as a floppy or removable disk).

If the error message appears when you save an existing answer file at the end of an interview, you can instead choose the Save As option and save the file in ANX format. You can then discard the original, corrupted answer file. If necessary, you can then convert the file back to ANS format by resaving it as such.
