When auto-detecting multiple fields in HotDocs 10.0.0 or 10.0.1 Automator (F8), the field detection happens very slowly, and some fields may not be detected.

Please note that this issue has been permanently resolved as of the HotDocs 10.0.2 release.

This problem appears to occur only in Windows 7, and can be overcome by 1) choosing a non-aero Windows 7 theme, or 2) disabling desktop composition for HotDocs programs or globally.

To change your Windows 7 theme to a non-Aero theme:

  1. Right-click on the desktop
  2. Click on Personalize
  3. Scroll down to the Basic and High Contrast Themes section
  4. Double-click a theme in the Basic and High Contrast Themes section

To disable desktop composition for HotDocs programs:

  1. Browse to the HotDocs program folder (usually C:\Program Files\HotDocs or C:\Program Files (x86)\HotDocs)
  2. Right-click on hdauto.exe and choose Properties
  3. Click on the Compatibility tab
  4. Check Disable Desktop Composition
  5. Click OK
  6. Repeat the above steps for hdfill.exe and hotdocs.exe

You can also disable desktop composition globally by doing the following:

  1. Click on the Windows Start button
  2. Right-click on Computer
  3. Click on Advanced system settings
  4. Click on the Advanced tab
  5. Under Performance, click on the Settings button
  6. In the Visual Effects tab, uncheck Enable desktop composition
  7. Click Apply

Please note that changing these settings will affect the display features of Windows 7.
